In the last 5 years of my ownership I have completed a full overhaul of the car which included:
New updated timing chain tensioner and chain.
Reset all valve clearances
Renew rubber components in fuel injection system.
New starter motor.
Gearbox overhaul by Allgears Getrag specialist
New differential plate pack and overhaul by Allgears
Service SLS system with new spheres and fluid lines
Suspension overhaul replacing various bushes and front ball joints.
Renew engine mounts.
Rebush transmission selectors with delrin bushes improve shift quality.
Then the body.
Strip off all cladding panels, remove glass (except windscreen).
Remove bumpers, lights, strip doors and prepare for repaint in original colour.
Repair any corrosion, limited amount included around rear bumper to wing fixings, boot seal holder, bottom of front left hand wing, 2 small areas of rear floor. All repairs are metal cut out and new material let in.
Original rocker panels, floors etc, original factory windscreen has not been changed.
Car then was prepped and repainted and reassembled with new clips, side window seals etc from Mercedes.
After completing the cosmetic overhaul I find the car too pristine to use, (I live in rural Herefordshire with lots of narrow lanes) so it's been sitting under a dust sheet in my workshop for a couple of years barely getting used. No rust, no stone chips, no dents, looks like an almost new Mercedes. Not been messed with works perfectly, no gear noise, diff whine. Will be tax exempt next year.
