1962 MG B Roadster – Early Home Market Pull Handle Example
Registration: 2151 RU | Chassis: GHN3-2229 | Odometer: 72, 934 miles
We’re delighted to offer this outstanding 1962 MG B Roadster — an early and increasingly rare pull-handle model, presented in great condition throughout. This is a genuine UK-supplied, right-hand-drive example with just three former keepers, still wearing its original Bournemouth-issued registration number, 2151 RU.
Finished in its original Tartan Red with a beautifully trimmed black hide interior, enhanced with red piping, this Roadster underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2014. The quality of the work is evident in every detail, and a full photographic record is included in the history file. The car retains key early features such as its original steel wheels, banjo-style steering wheel, and — remarkably — is believed to remain on its original bodyshell.
Mechanically, the car has been sympathetically upgraded for improved drivability, now fitted with a later five-bearing engine and a reconditioned three-synchro gearbox with overdrive. It has also been converted to a 12-volt, negative earth electrical system and fitted with K&N air filters. The result is a wonderfully usable, characterful MGB that wants for nothing and is ready to enjoy.
Accompanying the car is a remarkable file of documentation. Alongside the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate — confirming this is a home market car manufactured between 14th and 20th November 1962 and dispatched to its supplying MG dealer on 26th November — there are numerous older MOT certificates, a series of period tax discs, detailed fuel logs believed to support the odometer reading, and a fascinating collection of handwritten maintenance notes dating back decades. A wide range of receipts and invoices are also present, along with images documenting the car’s restoration journey.
It is increasingly rare to find a pull-handle MGB with this level of originality, provenance, and presentation. Recently serviced and freshly MOT’d for added peace of mind, the car is supplied with a three-month warranty.
