Description

L'Atelier des 1000 is pleased to offer for sale this superb Peugeot 306 S16 Phase 2, presented in a particularly desirable configuration in an elegant metallic blue colour combined with a black leather and alcantara interior. The 306 GTI, also known as the 16V or S16, embodies pure driving pleasure, combining renowned reliability with surprising comfort for a compact sports car of the 1990s.

Positioned as the top-of-the-range version of the 306 range, it served as the technical and stylistic basis for the legendary 306 Maxi, a rally queen in the 90s, driven in particular by a young Sébastien Loeb at the start of his career. A direct competitor of the Golf GTI of the time, this Phase 2 marked a clear evolution. It ditched the AVAC engine, considered too linear, and adopted the famous 167bhp 2. 0L naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder. This characterful engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, a first for a Peugeot production model. The model we are presenting here, of German origin, comes from a very fine private collection, and has only 99, 300 km on the clock. Mechanically, the engine works perfectly, with crisp revs and a lively response to acceleration. The 6-speed gearbox is a real pleasure to handle, with precise guidance and smooth gear changes.
The clutch is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or weakness. The original exhaust system has been preserved, and while discreet at low revs, it allows the full sound of the 4-cylinder to emerge at high revs, for a perfectly balanced audible pleasure. The chassis, renowned for its agility, is sound and well-balanced. The MacPherson-type suspension fulfils its role with rigour, while the brakes are powerful and well-balanced. The running gear is also in very good condition, with no particular play. The steering is precise, and the power steering works very well, without masking the feeling of sporty driving. The original wheels are in excellent condition, and the tyres are also in very good condition. The original metallic blue paintwork has retained all its lustre. The underpinnings are free of any corrosion and are in very good overall condition, as is the rest of the vehicle. The original interior is very well preserved. The rare and much sought-after Recaro sports seats provide perfect support. The roof lining, carpets and door panels are also very well preserved. The dashboard is neither cracked nor worn, and all the instrumentation functions normally.

The original steering wheel shows no noticeable wear and tear, and the car is fitted with the rare code-operated immobiliser option, reflecting its high standard of finish at the time. In view of the condition and rare configuration of this vehicle, we are asking €17, 990. Trade-in and exchange possible.
