Description
The Citroën GS ("Grande Série"), later GSA, is a passenger car model from the French automaker Citroën. Between autumn 1970 and mid-1986, 2. 5 million units were produced, most coming off the Rennes plant’s production lines. The GS was Car of the Year in 1971.
The car we are offering here is a October 1977 model. This Frenchman left France for the Netherlands in 2010 to enjoy his retirement. Its previous owner has owned the Citroën GS since 2020 and used it for many enjoyable trips during these years. The car is technically in excellent, well-maintained condition. Driving this classic Citroën GS is an unforgettable experience. Of course, a car of this age has a point to note: on the left side, at the bottom of the doors, the GS is beginning to show signs of aging. This does not diminish the driving experience, but in the long term the car may need a bit of maintenance.
Introduction
"The GS is a ultramodern and original car that perfectly meets all the requirements of today’s driver. It is equipped with the excellent hydropneumatic suspension system, proven for more than 20 years. It is identical to that of the Citroën CX. Thus, even on-road handling is rock solid, with a constant ride height. Potholes, rough roads… the GS doesn’t care. It keeps going without being disturbed. In addition, it is equipped with front-wheel drive and four high-pressure assisted disc brakes. The dashboard forms a clear unit. All is visible at a glance. You will not find comparable comfort anywhere else, except on the Citroën CX. Its elegant and avant-garde lines and its perfect aerodynamics harmonise perfectly with its features. And to crown it all, there are not one, but no fewer than six GS models. From the Special to the Pallas. So there is a GS for you too." (Source: GS brochure, Spring 1976)
One of the two early ones The appellation GS, intended for the base version, was common at Citroën at the time. Outside French-speaking areas, the term "Confort" makes no sense. Citroën thus abandoned this term after only two years. From 1973, the models are called GS and GS 1220.
GS 1220 Club
Differences between the Confort and the Club
Inside, the Confort features: pull straps instead of armrests, different seats and a different rear bench, rubber mats instead of carpet, absence of upholstery on the B and C pillars, door bottoms and boot panels, interior lighting only on the left door, absence of tachometer, odometer, clock or cigarette lighter, and absence of day/ night mode on the rearview mirror. The exterior of the Confort is distinguished by body-colour window surrounds, the absence of stainless steel trim around the front and rear windows, and the absence of rubber strips on the front bumper.
A car not to be missed! enjoy it, finished in a colour typical of the 1970s...
