Description
Amazing condition VW Type 3 Variant (Squareback), first registered in January 1972, in incredible unrestored condition. Supplied new by Robinsons of Graz in Austria, so left hand drive Type 36 1600 L European spec car (has original dealer book with chassis number and spec etc).
You will be hard pushed to find another one in similar condition that has never been welded, all original panels with great panel gaps, super straight, with only one exterior repaint done to a high standard by the previous UK owner .
The interior is in great condition, with the only changes being highback seats that have been restored in the same OG fabric as the original back seat. OG carpets in great condition, OG rubber boot liner, dashboard has tiny 1 cm crack by speaker grill (where they all crack), and the steering wheel is from a 1303 deluxe cabrio and really suits the car.
The alloy wheels are immaculate genuine German ATS from the late 1970s as they've been on the car for many years and were available from VW dealers of that era.
The car has a new Autolinea engine supplied from Heritage parts last Autumn and comes with the remaining 2 year warranty. (I also have the matching number engine that came with the car that will go with the car, but will require rebuilding). I have covered less than a thousand miles with the new engine, but it had it's first oil change and timing re set after 500km use. All engine work/ installation was done by Central Valley Restorations who have decades of experience with air cooled VWs.
The vehicle was part of a private collection near Graz in Austria, and was kept in a "museum" for many years, which accounts for the remarkable condition of the bodywork.
Has had a replacement speedo fitted at some point showing 39k KM , but at the time of the article in Air Style magazine in 2022 had only covered 65k KM. Obviously I cannot verify mileage but everything indicates a low mileage car in terms of bodywork and interior condition.
It was a Top 5 winner at the Volksweald Show, and a class winner at Stanford Hall, and was a concours car at VW Northwest, as well as being featured in issue 6 of Airstyle magazine in 2022.
The car drives beautifully and is everything you would expect from a well cared for Type 3.
I am in the process of buying another VW for my small collection so sadly it's time for this beauty to find a new home. Please, only serious enquiries. I spent over a year trying to find an excellent Type 3 and I was originally looking for an early model, but when I found out about this car and saw it I knew I had to buy it as it is one of the best late model cars I've ever seen. I'm a life long VW fan and have owned over 40 air cooled VWs over the last 43 years and this is one of the best I've ever owned.
In short, if you are looking for a great Type 3 that has great presence, and would not be out of place in a concours line up at any of the UK shows (and indeed has won a couple in it's class), or if you just want to enjoy a great classic, then this one is hard to beat.
