Description

This is one trick Volvo 240 Estate sleeper that grabs that sleeper kind of attention wherever it goes. I purchased this as a standard car many years ago and used it as a daily, but in 2024 the 2. 0 engine gave out and the big ends went, so spotting an opportunity it had a completely rebuilt and renewed Rover 3500cc V8 engine in it. The spec is below;
Engine is a Rover 3. 5 V8
RPI Engineering Rover SD1 torque master heads (they increase horsepower and performance)
Uprated cam
4 Barrel Holley carburettor
Uprated Land Rover gearbox
Custom built subframe
B&M Shifter
Uprated starter motor
Electronic push button ignition
A custom built Powerflow stainless steel exhaust.
The exhaust is a piece of art, because it has divert valves on it. So upon the press of a button the car suddenly becomes very loud indeed and sounds like a drag racing car.
Air ride suspension
ROTA polished deep dish alloys.
In 2025 it went to Golding Barn Custom Garage in Henfield BN5, for a complete mechanical overhaul, service, repairs, modifications and an MOT costing a LOT of money.

Good points:
Visually amazing
Air ride - so the car sinks down to the floor when the button is pressed
The engine
The sound
The performance
The individuality
The original blue velour interior (in perfect condition)

Bad points:
The rear passenger door is rusty on the inside at the bottom - I have a non rusty replacement door that will come with the car
Paint lacquer has peeled off in a small area on the bonnet
The lips of some of the wheel arches are rusty in some areas
The wheels are kerbed in some areas

All in all the car owes me around £20k. If you want to build this again, then call it £4k for the car, £4k air ride and alloys, taking engine out, putting new trick engine in, modifying it to fit, modify the electrics and custom exhaust 15-20k. So you are probably looking at £25k as a minimum to do this, and this Volvo has not only had it all done, but it's only £10k. I really don't want to sell it, especially after spending a huge amount of money on it in May this year to get it right, but, i'm in a position where I have no choice, I need the money so it must go.

This is a custom built, low rider Volvo 240 Estate sleeper that sounds lovely when driving it. It burbles away beautifully and cruises effortlessly at 70mph on the motorway, but press the pedal down and my god, it goes like stink. If you want it to sound like a big block, or a true drag car, then press the divert valve button on the remote control to open the exhaust valves, floor it and oh my god it sounds like thunder and chaos, especially when driving through one of the many tunnels in the U. K.
If I kept it, I would get the the wheel arch lips repaired, put the door on and that's it. This is one cool Volvo 240 Estate. It's sits cool, cruises cools, looks cool, goes like stink and sounds like thunder. The look and sound of this cool low sleeper is awesome.
