Description
For those who know what they're looking at, this is a super-rare genuine Saab factory V4 van. Built for the Swedish Postal service, it is thought Saab only made 12 of these vans as prototypes, of which 3 are known to survive. This is thought to be the only one in the UK. Well known in the Saab community, it was owned in the 80s and 90s by Northampton Racing, and still has their sign-written logo on the roof edges. I sourced it about 8 years ago from a seller in Germany and re-imported it, the vehicle was never registered in Germany and so retains it's original UK 'H' registration.
This is very much a project, don't expect to turn up and drive it home. It will need extensive welding in all the usual 95/ 96 areas - front inner wing edges, front floorpans, outer sills, rear inner wings - but it comes with a rear stuffed full of panel cuts from other cars, spare wings, etc.
The engine is complete but missing it's timing cover, and the balance shaft gear looks to have stripped it's teeth - so I'd bank on that needing a complete rebuild. There is also a complete V4 in the back, condition unknown, the previous seller assured me that was a free and running engine. The gearbox I believe has freewheel locked out. Estimate on all brakes needing a complete overhaul.
It has been dry stored in a barn during my ownership. It rolls and steers for loading - one of the tyres is completely perished, I can supply a spare to allow it to be loaded. Downsizing my collection as I'm slowly realising that I'm probably never going to get round to everything. Van is located approximately 5 miles north east of Glenrothes in Fife. Possibly the only one in the UK, very rare Saab 95 V4 van.
