Description
Hi
Welcome to the sale of this Freelander 1 HSE. For those that know this year is the run out year for the first generation of Freelander and the HSE model is the top trim level and has all Land Rover's kit and know-how thrown at it.
The Freelander is such an important vehicle to Land Rover, and effectively saved it's bacon and was a huge success with buyers. Nowadays you can pop a Freelander 1 onto a classic car policy if you want, but equally they make for fantastic, relatively simple to look after daily drivers / family cars.
Here is a summary of this particular example:
- Top HSE trim level
- Proven, respected and reliable BMW engine
- Automatic gearbox for wafting around and easy driving
- Leather seats (easy to maintain)
- Heated seats (great in winter)
- Sunroof for extra light in the cabin
- Full mechanical check over and new MOT
- Lovely colour
- Run out model with body coloured bumpers (looks great)
- 17" alloy wheels
- Split tail gate (can drop boot glass and put shopping in without having to open the boot door)
- Tow bar and double electrics
- Super practical, go anywhere, great in snow and rain type vehicle
- 142, 000 miles
- lots of stamped up service history in the book + invoices
- new MOT, ready to go
So, we bought the car from a local gentleman who had just spent £700 on maintenance just before the turbocharger decided to fail. He had a real soft spot for the car as it had served him faithfully but didn't have the extra funds (having just spent the £700) to replace the turbocharger (it's located at the back of the engine and is a very labour hungry/ expensive job) so he stored and kept the car until he could do so. That time sort of never came, hence us buying the car in order to repair it and get it back into service, which we have done.
We have replaced the turbocharger, fully serviced the car, replaced a drop link for the MOT, replaced the door lock actuators (a common issue on Freelanders) and also replaced two window regulators (another common issue).
The car now drives superbly. It feels really strong and solid if that makes sense? The engine pulls well and is quiet, the gearbox changes smoothly and the whole car just feels 'dependable'.
The exterior of the car is finished in lovely metallic Lapis Blue, which really suits these last of the line Freelander's with the body coloured bumpers etc. The bodywork is not blemish free of course, there are dents and marks here and there but as per the photos it presents well and looks nice.
The interior is very nice. Being the top HSE model it has leather seats, heated front seats, a leather steering wheel with stereo controls, a glass sunroof (sunroof currently not working but it does let lots of light into the cabin, which a non-sunroof model wouldn't), air con (not working assumed to need a new compressor), a powerful heater, genuine Land Rover heavy duty rubber carpet mats, central locking, 4 x electric windows etc.
One of the best things about these Freelander 1's, in my opinion, is the fact they are so versatile and useable. You can use them 365 days a year and do practically anything with them.
- With 4 wheel drive they shrug off winters and snowy roads with ease
- With the tow bar fitted you can tow a caravan, a trailer, a boat, another car, whatever you need....
- The high up seating position is great on country lanes
- The automatic gearbox makes longer journeys easy
- They are robust and solid so you don't need to worry about pot holes and poorly surfaced roads
- They look great when cleaned up but equally look great covered in mud!!!
- The split tailgate is great for lobbing things in the boot like shopping or a bale of hale...
- They make for a great 'dog car' or family bus
... they are just so flexible.
Anyway, as I say this isn't a show standard car, but it is solid, it's had plenty of recent investment in it, it's in a great colour with a top spec, and it's ready to give many more years' of faithful service for not a lot of money!
Thanks for looking.
