The Matchless G80 was a staple in the Matchless range from 1946 to 1966
This example is a G80CS the 'C' stood for competition and the 'S' for suspension i. e. not ridged frame
Powered by a 498cc single-cylinder pushrod, two-valve motor producing 28bhp
Bud Ekins was an accomplished motorcycle racer and part of the Matchless race team for motocross and desert racing. He was also a notable TV and film stuntman, famously performing the fence jump for Steve McQueen in the Great Escape
This bike was built for desert racing from parts to a very high standard and then sold at auction in the US shortly before Bud passed away
It remains in great condition and is running having recently been recommissioned
Now UK-registered and is supplied with a current V5C along with correspondence relating to Bud's involvement with the bike
