Description
Originally registered in France, this beautifully presented 1987 Honda MTX Rally Sport 125 made its way to the UK around two years ago and has since enjoyed a careful re-commissioning with a focus on maintaining its character while ensuring it rides exactly as it should.
Just one UK owner has held the bike since import, and it now represents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-sorted example of Honda’s iconic lightweight trail machine.
The MTX has recently undergone a comprehensive refresh, including a full service, new Metzeler 6 Days tyres, tank seal and re-line, carburettor strip and clean, plus a cleaned airbox with a fresh filter installed. The oil tank and sender unit have also been cleaned out, and the cush drive pins replaced—giving peace of mind for both reliability and longevity.

The Rally Sport model was offered only in select European markets and is seldom seen on UK roads. Sitting above the standard MTX, the Rally Sport gained a number of small but desirable upgrades that set it apart—most notably its unique colour scheme and graphics package, revised suspension settings, and market-specific trim details that gave it a more purposeful, competition-inspired stance. These touches, combined with Honda’s crisp, rev-happy 125 two-stroke engine, make the Rally Sport particularly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the more distinctive and limited-production MTX variants.
A true period Honda with all the charm of late-80s trail riding, this MTX starts readily, runs cleanly, and presents exactly as an honest, properly cared-for classic should. Whether added to a collection or enjoyed on the road, it’s a lovely example of a model that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find in this condition.
