The Scimitar SE4 GT Coupe was a rare car even back in the mid 1960’s when it was manufactured by the Reliant Motor Co. Now it is estimated that there are currently only 30 or so left on the road. Launched at the 1964 Motor Show to considerable acclaim Reliant was taken by surprise by the demand for their new sports car and only managed to produce 296 over the next two years. However it was the Straight Six SE4 that paved the way for the success of the later Scimitar models.
GLO being car number 74 is an early Straight Six SE4 and is recorded on the RSSOC Register. The car was owned for many years by the previous owner who to his credit completely restored the car from a dissembled collection of parts to a saved SE4 and his reliable daily driver. There is a full photographic record of the restoration which included a chassis that was fully repaired and then hot dipped galvanized. The engine was completely rebuilt and the suspension and transmission were overhauled and GLO was finally refinished in the correct period white. We have attended to several areas of the car including the ignition system and the car is now ready for its next owner to enjoy. The car still presents very well with an excellent body and good paintwork and chrome. The interior although not all original is in fair condition tidy and functional and there is an excellent period Webasto roof with wind deflector. GLO is a very reliable go anywhere driving car that at the same time has the ability to always put a smile on you face with that lovely noise coming from that sports exhaust. With only some 30 SE4’s left on the road GLO represents extremely good value for money in the current market for sports and GT cars from the 60’s. As with all our cars although not needed GLO comes with a full years MOT and a free service/ inspection after 2500 miles/ 6 months.
