In 1950, Morgan produced the Plus 4, with its more powerful 2-litre engine. The model became a staple of the brand, barely changed for 70 years. In 2020, Morgan introduced its brand new CX platform featuring a state-of-the-art bonded aluminium chassis. Not losing sight of their heritage, handcrafted aluminium was shaped onto an ash frame to help build the body. The car also received BMW's famed B48 turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, giving 255bhp! The new Plus 4 builds on Morgan's traditions, being fantastic coach-built sports cars, now with the performance to match!
This lovely and well-maintained example was registered in the UK in March 2022. The car, being almost new, is in excellent condition. The car has been stored, serviced, and MOT’d by our team here at the Classic Car Company, all the way through its life!
To own these cars is really fantastic; the BMW engine and gearbox provided great reliability, with the aluminium chassis providing great longevity. Despite being a hand-built car, there have been very few reported issues, with only small radiator leaks, instrument cluster misting, and electronics issues, which are relatively simple to deal with. Our example is in really excellent condition, featuring no issues and is ready to go, having been adequately used over its ownership from new.
The car drives exceptionally well, the twin scroll turbo BMW engine producing almost instant and linear power delivery, with the turbo nose adding to the car’s theatre. The new chassis gives the Morgan great composure and grip. Being light, the car is very agile, and it flows down country lanes with light and accurate steering. The suspension setup allows for a touch of body roll, making the car fun and engaging to drive as you manage the weight transfer from corner to corner. The position of the pedals is great for heel and toe, with the 6-speed manual gearbox adding to the car's engagement. The drop-top driving experience is excellent, with the roof providing ample weather protection when needed.
The exterior condition is really excellent, with only two small marks on the front right-hand bumper and left back bumper to note. The interior of the car is really an exceptional place to be, with a tan leather seat with contrasting black stitching in exceptional condition. The chromed steering wheel with a beautiful wooden-trimmed rim tops off the experience and is classic Morgan. The mechanical condition is really excellent; the chassis and underside are in great condition.
The B48 4-cylinder turbocharged BMW engine, producing 255 bhp and 296 lb/ ft. Power is sent to the rear wheels by a 6-speed gearbox, propshaft and differential. The bonded aluminium construction provides stability and stiffness for the double wishbone suspension all around. The ventilated disc brakes give the car great performance with ABS. The steering is an electric-assisted rack-and-pinion system. The car comes with 15-inch silver alloy wheels, fitted with Avon ZV7’s dated to 2021.
The car comes with a spare tyre, tonneau cover, door panel covers, service book and a MOT and service invoices.
