Description
Hello,
I’m selling my genuine Dodge Diplomat, formerly a Minnesota state trooper car, registration/ matriculation 48070. It has remained in its original condition (original equipment) except for a speedometer/ rev counter, a reversing camera and a brand-new touchscreen head unit. After its years of service it migrated to North Carolina.
French “carte grise” (V5) in my name (with the option to switch to French “collection” registration if needed; FFVE certificate is present).
Valid MOT/ technical inspection: OK — 6 months (valid until June 2031).
Sold with a very nice set of pairs of plates (French registration) in US format. The plates shown in the advert are decorative only.
You’re *** of US cop cars and you’ve never heard of the Dodge Diplomat? And yet you only ever see it in early-80s US films. It was the most-used model (along with its twin sister, the Plymouth Fury) by law enforcement from 1980 to 1985. Then only the Chevrolet Caprice and the Ford LTD Crown Victoria really took market share (more comfort), but some agencies kept the Diplomat right through to the end of the eighties because it was more manoeuvrable than its competitors.
The body is very solid: it’s got genuine full-age patina built up over decades, with only light surface rust concentrated on the parts exposed to the sun (roof, bonnet), which only enhances its authentic look. Interior is “as found” but remains in good shape with no damage to the upholstery. Beautiful chrome, no chips in the glass or the windscreen.
V8 318 — very nice engine bay.
Lots of work/ fresh parts have been done.
Engine rebuilt, exhaust quieter (denser V8 sound), dampers/ shocks, new tyres (the white-wall trims weren’t really the point at the time, but they were chosen to push the car’s “cartoon” look), brakes, leaf spring packs, brand-new headlights, electronic ignition, new spark plugs, new alternator, inlet manifold feeding a 4-barrel carb, electric fuel pump, new hoses, new belts, pressure regulator, etc… etc…
Drives regularly.
Original equipment:
The iconic Twinsonic SAE W3 71 lightbar (a proper museum piece all by itself). Works perfectly, with a very crisp and powerful output. (siren, public address). Sticks out 7cm on either side above the roof—US full-size lightbar!
Side lamps and orange indicators (to complement the Twinsonic lightbar). Everything works.
Spotlight (search/ recon lamp). Functional.
“Penetration” lights (behind the grille).
Push bar.
Cibie + functional antenna.
Superb Dog dishes x 5.
Partition/ separation grille (prisoner partition).
Period baton (for dealing with a recalcitrant suspect).
Radar (not working due to missing power-supply cable).
Vcon code 3 model 367 2L4 is a very practical unit that includes the siren itself plus a control box for the lightbar and the other equipment—one single unit to control everything.
Also supplied with 4 very powerful flasher lights.
Reversing camera integrated into the touchscreen head unit (not original).
Rev counter (not original).
