Ariel began producing bicycles in the late 1800s eventually progressing onto motorcycles in 1902. In the 1920s, its star designer was Val Page, whose handsome creations lent themselves well to the slogan “Ariel: The Modern Motorcycle.” A new range of five bikes was unveiled in 1927, the Models A, B, C, D, and E. The C and D were respectively the Standard and Deluxe ohv 497cc single-cylinder models. In 1928, they gained Brooklands-style fishtail silencers and enclosed valve gear, and further refinements for 1929 (including dry-sump lubrication) led to the C and D becoming the Model E and Model F. Features of the Deluxe Model F included a wider front mudguard, wider tyres, a larger saddle and a luggage carrier.
The late Mr. Harris purchased this magnificent unrestored Model F from Europe in 2013. Registered with the DVLA in 2014, it occupied a prominent place in his collection, where it stood out for its originality (much like the Ariel Square Four also in this sale). Said to start easily, the Model F has been well-maintained and enthusiastically used, though it has not been out since 2025. It is supplied with the V5C, two continuation logbooks and some handbooks.
