THE SIMCA 1204 Special, built between 1968 and 1971, was a totally unique vehicle. Based on the Simca 1100, it was a sports hatch before the words had even been muttered in motoring circles.
Never mind your late 70s and early 80s hot hatches, here was Simca giving us 3 and 5-door hatchbacks in the late 1960s and, in the case of the one-off 1204 Special, a genuine GT family car!
The 1204 Special came with, as standard, dual twin-choke downdraft Webers, servo assisted disc brakes, wider wheels, spot lights built into the front grille and plenty of other GT style goodies. According to sources, so rare was the model back in the day that only six survive in the UK, of which just one is roadworthy, This one!
Not only is it roadworthy, but it is in outstanding condition. Bordering on pristine you might even suggest. I understand that the original owner kept her for 45 years and that he lived in France. The second owner - a Simca Club official - enjoyed the car for the next ten years and that takes us until now. A friend of mine came across it recently and put it into his name. They are the only owners from day one.
Condition-wise, the vehicle would be hard to better. Outside, inside and underneath. Check out my photos. She drive beautifully and performs admirably as you would expect of this fwd "hot hatch" running on twin twin-choke carbs!
