SIMCA 1200S COUPE BERTONE 1968
Red / Black imitation-leather interior
Collector’s registration (V5C)
Born from the collaboration between SIMCA and the famous coachbuilder BERTONE, the SIMCA 1200 S is quite rare on our roads. Produced only between 1967 and 1971 in 14, 400 examples, this little French sports coupé has everything going for it. A ferocious front grille, air intakes on the bonnet in the style of the Lamborghini Miura, and a flowing, raked profile.
On the engine side, Simca bet on its 1204cc “Poissy” unit, boosted by two twin-choke Solex carburettors. 80 bhp in a car weighing just 855 kg—performance that makes for real driving pleasure.
This example presents beautifully, with an excellent state of preservation. The Simca Club have been able to share part of the car’s history: it has lived for a few years with successive owners on the Côte d’Azur. Even more interestingly, it was displayed for a long time in an automotive museum in Switzerland. In fact, adherence to these original conditions makes it a car very close to its factory-delivered state.
As for the bodywork, a full respray was carried out a few years ago. The finish is glossy and very well tightened up. The chrome is bright and in excellent condition.
It still has its original steel wheels.
The cabin appears to be original (the smell rarely lies..) and is exceptionally well preserved—no doubt helped by its museum life. The door panels, seats and backrests, as well as the dashboard, are all in perfect condition. It has its original three-spoke wood steering wheel. The instruments are fully functional.
From an engine perspective, it’s fitted with what appears to be its original block. You can see from the overall condition of the bay that it has always been properly maintained.
What’s more, the current owner has recently paid for routine wear-and-tear parts:
- clutch master/ slave (release) cylinder
- rear engine mount
- stabiliser bar bushes
- steering column coupling (flector)
- track/ steering joint (ball joint)
The last oil change was carried out in June 2025 at 43, 137 km (current 5-digit speedometer reading 44, 287).
The car is driven very regularly.
The MOT is valid until July 2026.
An opportunity to own a rare French sports coupé from the 1970s—admittedly a little under-appreciated, but potentially a “collection-worthy” car of the future.
A playful rear-wheel drive with its engine set behind the rear axle, delivering that classic “old-school” driving fun while still remaining highly manoeuvrable.
