Description
Classic Car Design presents this charming Simca 1200S coupe, born from the collaboration between Simca and the Turin coachbuilder Bertone, with the design credited to the young Giorgetto Giugiaro. In this sporty version, this elegant coupé was produced in fewer than 15, 000 examples between 1967 and 1971. The car offers a handsome overall presentation and remains in its original configuration. Its last owner restored and lovingly maintained it over the past 20 years.
Exterior: the bodywork is in generally good condition, with a few light signs of aging and use that do not detract from its overall appearance. Important note: the hubcaps, mouldings and other chrome parts are all present and in good condition. The BWA wheels add a touch of sportiness.
Interior: it retains its authentic character without any restoration, only the dashboard vinyl has been replaced. The upholstery remains in good condition, although the driver's seat has suffered a bit more wear than the rest, particularly the cushion. The owner's wife had made covers using plaids, much more comfortable than the faux leather in summer! The period car radio is functional but, alas, there are no more stations to pick up.
The four-cylinder engine mounted at the rear starts without hesitation and revs up eagerly, a sign that the two Solex carburetters are well tuned. The mechanicals are all in good working order.
The Simca 1200S is a pleasant alternative to the Italian and German sportscars of the 1960s. It’s a model that blends elegance, sportiness and reliability with a touch of originality.
