The Toyota MR2 is a mid-engined, two-seater, rear-wheel-drive sports car manufactured between ’84 and ’07. The third incarnation ‘W30’, was marketed as the MR-S in Japan, Spyder in the US, and Roadster in Europe. The first W30 debuted in ’97 at the Tokyo Motor Show. Harunori Shiratori, chief engineer, stated “First, we wanted true driver enjoyment, blending good movement, low inertia, and lightweight. Then, a long wheelbase to achieve high stability and fresh new styling; a mid-engine design to create excellent handling and steering without the weight of the engine upfront; a body structure as simple as possible to allow for easy customising, and low cost to the consumer”.
First registered on 4th February 2004, this MR2 Roadster has enjoyed a cared-for and cherished life and now currently registers just a shade under 27, 000 miles. Powered by a 130BHP, 1. 8-litre VVTi inline 4-cylinder engine coupled to a manual gearbox it is fitted with period, JDM upgrades, including a true TRD (Toyota Racing Development) front and rear strut brace kit, Blitz NuR-Spec R exhaust system and a carbon fibre engine cover.
Finished in red with a contrasting with black and red interior (including TRD dress up pieces) with upgraded exterior grilles from Zun Sport and a black folding soft top roof, it recently went through the Bridge Classic Cars workshop and given a full bill of health with a new no advisory MOT until May 2027. Offered with a history file dating back to 2005 (in which the car is logged at Marshall Toyota in Cambridgeshire with a mileage of just 3192 miles in its first year) and containing multiple invoices, MOT certificates, and parts manuals.
