1950 TALBOT SUNBEAM 80 DROPHEAD COUPE MKI - WITH TRANSFERABLE REGISTRATION 'PPA 78' - FOR RESTORATIONThe 1950 Sunbeam-Talbot represents a pivotal transitional year for one of post-war Britain's most elegant sports saloons and convertibles. Manufactured by the Rootes Group at their Ryton plant, 1950 marked the final evolution of the Mark I (Mk 1) and the introduction of the significantly upgraded Mark II (Mk 2). These cars are highly regarded for their beautiful 'streamlined' styling, aerodynamic teardrop front wings, pillarless side glass, and rear wheel spats. In late 1950 (for the Earls Court Motor Show), the Rootes Group transitioned production from the Mark I to the Mark II, bringing major mechanical updates:2-Door Drophead Coupé (DHC): Coachbuilt by the prestigious firm Thrupp & Maberly, featuring a high-quality folding fabric roof and a deeply luxurious, leather-trimmed interior. Today, the 1950 Sunbeam-Talbot is celebrated as a highly usable post-war classic. It gained modern pop-culture fame as the signature car driven by Lady Felicia and Bunty in the BBC television series Father Brown. Original features like functioning mechanical 'trafficator' (semaphore) indicators, the built-in toolkit inside the boot lid, and the dashboard clock integrated directly into the rearview mirror make it a standout prize at classic car events. This vehicle is a restoration project, owned for the past 12 years. It has been dry stored throughout. Importantly, the registration PPA 78 IS transferable.. This is a rare convertible, but the hood is deficient however the frame is present. The car is largely solid throughout. The interior is as per photos and mostly present. Please note there is no engine with this car, however one is available through separate negotiation. This is a very rare convertible example of the marque.
