Description

The Ford Anglia 105E was introduced in 1959 and quickly became one of Ford’s most recognisable family cars of the period, with its distinctive reverse-sloping rear window, compact proportions and lively character making it a firm favourite on British roads. The Anglia remained in production until 1967, by which time it had become an important part of the British motoring landscape.

First registered in August 1967, this lovely example is particularly special to Milestone Classics, having been sold by us in 2019 and now returning to our showroom once again. Presented in its original two-tone colour scheme, the car retains a remarkable degree of originality and offers a fascinating ownership history stretching back to the year it was first registered.

The V5 records three previous keepers from new, although a handwritten history prepared by one of the owners suggests there may have been one additional keeper. The ownership trail that can be established takes the car from Mr Garroway of Calne, who registered the Anglia new in 1967, through Zebedee & Powney from 1980 to 1996, Mr Powney from 1996 to 2018 and Mr Martin from 2018 to 2026.

The story becomes particularly interesting during its time with Zebedee & Powney. Mr Powney has left a wonderful handwritten account of the car, written in 2017 when the Anglia celebrated its 50th birthday. He explains how the car was registered new by Mr Garroway and later traded into Zebedee & Powney, where it was immediately purchased by their top mechanic, Dudley Loud. When Dudley eventually traded the Anglia back, it was considered to be in such exceptional condition that the decision was made to preserve it, and it subsequently spent time displayed at the Atwell Wilson Museum until Mr Powney retired in 1993.

Today the Anglia remains wonderfully original, right down to its working 8-track and radio sound system. On the road it drives extremely well and continues to attract plenty of attention and positive comments wherever it goes. The two-tone paintwork has acquired the occasional mark commensurate with its age, but remains very appealing. The interior is equally original and in very good condition, with new carpets and door rubbers having been fitted during its later years.

The history file adds considerably to the appeal, containing old V5 documents, the original Anglia Users Handbook, the handwritten history prepared by Mr Powney, an original ‘Time for an Anglia’ sales brochure, information relating to the Atwell Wilson Museum and a collection of Zebedee & Powney business cards from the period when Stan Powney displayed the car. Spare keys are also present.

A wonderfully preserved and highly original Ford Anglia with an well-documented story, this is a car that has clearly been cherished throughout its life and retains a genuine connection with the people and businesses who looked after it. Having previously been sold by Milestone Classics in 2019, we are delighted to welcome it back and offer it once again to its next custodian.
