Toyota Corolla GT16 AE82
Offered for sale is my Toyota Corolla GT16 AE82 model.
This is a 1985 'C' registered car, first registered on 01/ 10/ 85 at a then cost of £7153. 00.
HPi clear, this car has only ONE registered keeper from new and has covered only 37, 000 miles.
According to D. O. T statistics, it is one of only 46 now registered for use on the road in 2011, compared to 801 in 2001, and 2454 in 1994; tragically, these cars are disappearing fast.
Finished in metallic silver with unmarked contrasting cloth trim, this car is probably the best available on the market today – it even has the original 'DIN' radio/ cassette player.
Toyota obviously majored on the 'driving experience' and mechanicals, as, is typical of the era, the car has as standard; manual windows, manual (non-PAS) steering, no central locking but has an electric sunroof!
If you remember cars from this era, you will appreciate that Ford's Escort XR3i had 105bhp, the VW Golf GTi had 112bhp and the Vauxhall Astra GTE had 115bhp – the Toyota offered far superior performance from it's fantastic 1. 6 twin cam 122bhp engine, which is incredibly free-revving, but has fantastic torque (the same 4A-GE 16-valve Twin Cam engine is also found in the RWD AE86 coupé, AE92 GTi16 and MR2).
I have just spent a fortune having the car serviced, with the following replaced;
air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, oil, anti-freeze, rotor arm, distributor cap, ignition leads, thermostat, alternator drive belt, and spark plugs etc.
As a precaution, the timing belt, tensioner, water pump and radiator have also been replaced with O. E parts (the car is 24 years old after all!).
The car was taken for its MOT on Saturday July 2nd 2011, and passed with NO advisories!
The car still drives tightly, belying its 25 years.
Don't confuse this car with the run-of-the-mill examples offered for sale; the price for the car is not cheap, but the price reflects the condition and the fact that it has one registered owner from new. I spent a long time looking for such a car, but unfortunately a change in circumstances (health) forces me to part with this wonderful car.
