Stunning & Original Rolls Royce 20/ 25 Hp Continental sports saloon by Arthur Mulliner of Northampton.
This car is in incredible time warp original condition & has a wonderful patina that has developed through the years & is impossible to replicate in restored cars.
Her original owner was the late Percival Perkins of Colwyn bay who ordered her new & kept her for many many years. She is showing just one additional owner on the log book since then. She was stored in the 60's and just re-comissioned 2 years ago which accounts for her time warp condition.
Recommissioning consisted of a bare metal respray in her original black. She was also rewired with modern copper core wires insulated with correct period covering. Her bottom end was inspected & found to be at factory tolerances. With the sump off she was thoroughly cleaned & had her sludge traps completely cleaned out. She was found to be in perfect mechanical condition from a wear standpoint which is commensurate with her low mileage. Her bijur oil chassis lubrication also had some of the capilliary lines replaced to bring her back to factory condition. Additionally her built in jacks were stripped, greased & reinstalled, New Brake linings fitted & Her dampers renovated. Her radiator had a new honey comb core fitted & all rubber pipes were replaced with new. All in all about £20, 000 was spent but I'm not sure of the exact total as I'm afraid to add up the bills! Her oil pressure runs at 25lbs which is 5lbs above factory specification attesting to the soundness of her mechanics.
Her interior is simply spectacular original leather in a rich brown color. To sit in her is in itself a special & unique experience. Her front two seats are separate chairs, the passenger one of which unusually pivots to allow easy ingress & egress for skirt or dress wearing ladies to alight with some decorum & perfect propriety!!! The rear seat is a bench seat with fold out arm rest. She has working reading lights next to the occasional mirrors in her rear pillar alcoves & also fold out occasional tables in the rears of the front seats. Her dash is of course burr walnut & all her instruments work perfectly including her clock which is the original Rolls Royce one on a seven day movement. (Contrary to traditional lore, it does not tick, but one would certainly be able to hear it if it did.) Her front mounted heater is also fully functioning & sends a welcome blast of warm air to the legs. She is also fitted with her original sliding sunroof. (manal in those days).
We took a photographic record of her recomissioning. She also has her original Rolls Royce Manual, Original Rolls Royce Guarantee & Arthur Mulliners Guarantee on the body. Stacks of other paperwork also. She is now in perfect road going condiiton. She starts first time every time either on the starter button or the crank handle. Once started she runs with the absolute uncanny silence that Pre War Rolls Royce Automobiles are justly famous for. Her gear box is perfect with smoooth positive changes, although once moving one only ever uses 3rd & 4th for 99% of driving.
She is equipped up front with dipping correct P100 Headlamps that add a regal & majestic air to the view down the bonnet. The lamps are in perfect order as is the nickel of her radiator surround & associated trim. The radiator shutters open automatically as required controlled by the thermostat. Her water runs at the correct temperature between 60 & 80 degrees, but will go to 90 degrees on long ascents where it is prudent to engage third gear. She also has her oringinal tool kit which is complete with the exception of one spanner. (Which I am tracking down a replacement for as we speak.)
Since being returned to the road she has covered 800 trouble free miles without missing a beat.
To sum up, this is a wonderfully sorted car in timewarp condition which needs absolutely nothing doing to it. She can be driven any time & starts on the button every time even after a 6 week lay up. These cars do not depreciate so make a wonderful enjoyable long term investment for less then the price of a new luxury car. She has just had a ful winter service by Hoffmanns of henly who are the UK's pre-eminent early Rolls Garage & has been given a clean bill of health. Just to look at her sitting in your garage is a thing of pleasure & every journey, whether just out to dinner or to attent an event further afield, is an event in itself. It is only a lucky few that get to experience vintage Rolls Royce motoring at its best.
