This is the cutest version of the 500, with chrome moustache and single round dial interior, and is in great condition. Finished in a lovely Fiat Sand Beige with light tan interior. Fitted with Borrani wheels and the bigger 650cc engine it has no problem keeping up with modern A road traffic.
We bought 'Sergio' from a lady in Florence in 2012 and drove it over 1, 000km back to Kent, crossing the Alps en route (which the car just soaked up). We had previously hired the same car in 2009 as the lady ran a local touring club and we decided to buy it when she started a family - both for the adventure and because we knew how good the car's condition was.
Since then Sergio has been treated to a bigger 650cc engine, new trunnions and Dinitrol treatment to protect the underside from the UK weather. It has sailed through its MOTs, the most recent in April. The bigger engine makes a huge difference and you can happily cruise at 55-60mph if there isn't a steep hill involved.
The bodywork is in great condition and is as bought in 2012, with just a few small marks and touched up areas. It's rust free and 'very clean' rather than totally 'concours' as you can see from the photos. Most people think it looks gorgeous.
The interior is smart but not perfect, again with a couple of touched up areas and just small signs of wear and tear. Certainly nothing to suggest he is nearly 50 years old! The sunroof is in excellent condition and is watertight. The pedal extensions and gear knob were fitted before we bought the car and are simple to return to original if desired. They somehow suit him, though.
The car has Borrani steel wheels that really set the car apart from most that you see. They were an aftermarket option when new I believe.
We are selling because we have to face up to having too many cars, and at 6ft 2in I simply don't fit Sergio very well! He drives very nicely, is nippier than you expect, and attracts positive attention wherever you go. You get used to being smiled at when driving this car.
We can vouch for it's condition from 2009, and it was obviously restored some point before that. Everything works, and we have a host of spares that come with the car, from clutch cable to the original 499cc engine and a synchro Fiat 126 gearbox.
