The TR6 was introduced in January 1969 using similar chassis and running gear components to those used in the TR5/ TR250 but with a restyled body by Karmann. While smoothing the lines of the car, wider wheels were also fitted making the car look low, lean and very fast drawing widespread positive comments from the motoring press at the time
Our original Pimento Red (CP Series) UK market TR6 was sold by Tice & Son (Wimborne) during August 1972. The Passport to Service book indicates fourteen services over the next six years during which time the car covered 43, 000 miles. The history folder indicates a rebuild in the early 1990’s and a second body-off, ground up restoration that commenced in 2013 with a final bill in excess of £35, 000. The chassis and body were separated, stripped and any corrosion eradicated. The front/ rear suspension, brakes, rear differential & steering were all rebuilt, new wiring loom installed and clutch fitted. The restoration was completed with re-upholstered seats, new carpets, mohair hood, i-pod radio and refurbished dashboard.
The car has covered just 700 miles since the rebuild, has excellent panel fit and drives as good as it looks. The overdrive gearbox changes smoothly and the six cylinder engine simply pulls like a train with the addictive straight six soundtrack sounding absolutely glorious.
Nearly 94, 000 TR6’s were produced but only 8, 370 were home market cars, making our car a rare survivor. The price of high quality TR6’s has risen steadily over the past 3 years and this well sorted car will provide an extremely entertaining drive and an excellent investment to the lucky new owner
