EXTERIOR
The dazzling Tornado Red paintwork presents with an outstanding, unmarked finish throughout. There are almost no stone chips to the front end, with zero unsightly scuffs or scrapes to any of the gleaming panels.
The GTI's distinctive styling features a centre-mounted twin exhaust, flared wheel arches, side skirts, and a deep front sill, all of which combine to provide great road presence. The bonnet, doors, and wheel arches are constructed from lightweight aluminium, helping this handsome little hot hatch to weigh in at just 1, 015kg.
INTERIOR
The cabin space is bright and airy. The interwoven cloth upholstery is absolutely pristine, with no signs of wear to any of the bolsters. The seats are finished with subtle red stitching as a complement to the leather-trimmed steering wheel, which still retains a superb factory texture.
In the foot-wells the spotless carpets are protected by a new set of Karo overmats front and rear. The rear seats also present ‘as new' and appear to have never been used. Furthermore the boot area is impeccably clean, and beneath the boot carpet you'll find the original VW tyre repair kit. A Carrozzeria (Pioneer) CD player with USB connectivity replaces the original radio/ cassette.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The sprightly 1. 6-litre GTI engine produces a healthy 123hp. The 16-valve unit features variable valve timing on the inlet camshaft, leading to a flatter torque curve. It generates a torque of 152 Nm at just 3, 000rpm, providing good pulling power, even at low engine revs.
This particular example has been well maintained at close mileage intervals from new. There are eight recorded services, with the most recent having been carried out in April 2016 at 31, 099 miles.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original ‘Bathurst' alloys remain in excellent condition with absolutely no curb marking to speak of, and the centre caps are in equally fine fettle. The 15-inch wheels are unique to the GTI, and look particularly smart against the Tornado Red bodywork. They are shod in a matching set of tyres with ample tread remaining.
HISTORY FILE
The Lupo was first registered on 26th March 2004. It was PDI'd a few days later and subsequently delivered to its first owner by Duo VW, Sagamihara Avenue, Japan. The history file is complete with the original VW document binder, all the dealer-supplied handbooks, and numerous maintenance records from new.
Having resided on the salt-free roads of Japan up until very recently (when it was imported into the UK by 4 Star), the Lupo has remained in outstanding corrosion-free condition. It has covered just 35, 228 miles from new, which is verified by the recorded service history, as detailed below.
