EXTERIOR
This desirable facelift R129 is framed by sharp and consistent Brilliant silver coachwork. The deep metallic flake looks sensational on this example, all of the paintwork remains in excellent condition and remains free from any scratches or swirl marks. The car has the feel and presence of an example that has clearly been pampered; the condition certainly belies its age and mileage.
Fitted with both a removable Panoramic hard top and electronic soft top this SL can comfortably be considered for use all year round.
INTERIOR
The interior space of the R129 has always been of a premium feel, in this case comprising of black and grey two-tone leather upholstery. The seats remain in excellent condition with only the lightest of wrinkles to be found on the surface, they also remain free from any wear to the bolsters. The rear seats are in perfect un-worn condition, still feeling soft and plush. The two-tone leather theme continues to the door panels, whilst fine stitching frames both the side and rear of the front seats alongside the roll over bar and hood cover.
This SL is fully spec’d and everything works with the perfect precision that you get from this era of Mercedes Benz; a real credit to their incredible engineering skills.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The robust V8 engine is in fine fettle having always enjoyed a regular service routine. The 5 speed autobox is well matched – the longer gearing suiting the torque characteristics of the V8 and whilst refinement is top of the agenda with excellent ride and road manners, the car does have plenty of poke on demand.
Presentation is of the highest order, with fixtures and fittings free of corrosion pointing to careful storage when not pressed into service.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
A welcome addition of 17 inch Evo II six-spoke alloys present impeccably wrapped in fresh MO designation ContiSport 3 rubber.
Calipers present well alongside freshly renewed brake discs and pads; feeling strong and responsive in pulling this SL up quickly and smoothly.
HISTORY FILE
This well kept SL had it’s PDI with Mercedes Mayfair on the 9th April 1998. The service intervals read as follows;
A Service – 09. 04. 98 – MB Tamworth – 9, 997 miles
B Service – 21. 03. 02 – MB Colindale – 20, 575 miles
A Service – 09. 02. 04 – MB Brighton – 30, 614 miles
A Service – 03. 03. 06 – MB Maidstone – 36, 768 miles
A Service – 15. 02. 08 – MB Tonbridge – 42, 078 miles
A Service – 09. 02. 10 – Nutley Sports – 45, 402 miles
B Service – 02. 07. 10 – MB Caterham – 48, 717 miles
The car was then sourced for a classic collection on behalf of a barrister who would use the car sparingly before an A service with MB Caterham in August of 2016.
In addition to standard servicing the car benefits from a new alternator, battery, brakes and tyres.
