Triumph GT6 Mk 3 – Body Off Restoration
The Triumph GT6 was introduced in 1966 based on the Giovanni Michelotti
fastback design used by the factory Triumph Spitfire racing team at the Le
Mans 24n hour race. By the introduction of the Mk3 version in 1970 the car
outperformed most of its rivals and was widely acknowledged as one of the most attractive GT’s on the market
Our GT6 was the subject of a body-off rebuild between 2000/ 04 (pictures in
history file) by a previous owner – a qualified engineer. The engine was rebuilt to original specification and all other mechanical parts replaced as required. The body was stripped and resprayed in original Pimento Red cellulose in 2002 and all cavities wax-oiled. The original interior was retained with the addition of a replacement wooden dashboard and period Motorola radio. Today the bodywork is stunning with floor pans/ sills/ arches all in red paint and excellent panel fit - the car is a testament to the preparation and attention to detail during the rebuild
The Triumph is a joy to drive, the straight six engine sounds superb and
benefits from a recent re-built differential, desirable overdrive gearbox and
aftermarket manual electric fan for continental/ hot climate touring.
GT6’s are now rightly recognised as stunning cars and the late Mk3’s with
overdrive and ‘swing spring’ transverse leaf spring/ swing axles the best
handling and most desirable of all.
We recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this lovely car
