The car offered here in the attractive and popular Misano Red is number 264 of 500 BMW E30 M3 Evo 2 cars built. The vehicle was imported into Australia in 2009 (Australian Import Approval #97410/ 1) and professionally engineered to right hand drive configuration (Engineering Certificate VIC C0231455 {CARTECH PTY LTD – Rowan Carter}).
One of the 50 cars sent to England when new, the owner of 264, Jason Kennedy, had had a minor accident, “…It was still snowing & I was trying out some WRC ice tyres I had from a mate at Pirelli, to cut a long story short I went from hero to 0 in about 2 miles, I crashed off the road, only slightly but damaged the oil cooler…”
Jason parked the car and did nothing eventually selling it on Ebay to Australia. The intention was to restore it and convert it to RHD, to meet Australia’s Registration requirements, however, like many restorations, it dragged on. The body which was both straight and solid, was restored and painted on the Gold Coast. The wonderful S14 engine was rebuilt by BMW racer, Justin Wade in Brisbane but then the whole process ground to a halt until “rescued” in 2015 by an enthusiast and current owner.
The decision was made to “start again”: strip, repaint; new suspension; new shocks; new brakes; new exhaust; new headlining, new dashboard; upgrade the RHD steering to E36; plus a very long list of little parts, clips, under trays etc. Whatever was needed was done by Classic BMW specialists Bill Rama and Ian Burrell.
This rare and highly desirable BMW E30 M3 is in excellent order throughout. It was selected by Motor Magazine for its issue on the 30-year anniversary of the M3. The model is eminently collectable with prices rising rapidly in recent years. The low mileage sister car (number 263/ 500) to this from the same owner recently sold for US$200, 000.
