1962 Hillman Minx
Listed for 28 days in its current condition, restoration project or daily runner requiring various levels of refurbishment, including needing an MOT as the present one has now lapsed.
My intention is to carry out all required works from November, including bodywork, interior trim and MOT, then relist later in the year once the work is done. In the meantime the car is available in its present form, should this be more preferable to buyers.
So, on to the work needed.
The Minx is generally very tidy and presentable considering her age but does need some TLC. The body does have some bubbling at the bottoms of the rear doors, rear arches and on the top of the nearside front wing. Underside is however excellent so its really just the cosmetic areas that need attention. my plan would be to tackle the rust and repaint the car in its original grey, however i would personally also repaint the top half a lighter shade to give it the common Rootes Group two tone look.
The interior is again clean and tidy but the headliner does have some rips and the front seat has also suffered from some detachment of the stitching which is common on cars of this age. Again, my intention is to replace the headliner, carpets ad refurbish the seats.
Mechanically, the Minx runs sweet and the engine and gearbox appears to be strong. It would benefit from a service and again my plan is to go through this as part of the refurbishment. The exhaust is on its last legs so whatever the outcome of this sale, its going to need a new one.
Overall, the Minx is a good car and with some time, investment and elbow grease this old girl could be a nice weekend car or a daily driver.
So, as previously outlined. The car is currently offered as a restoration project/ daily runner which requires a new MOT and some level of improvement. If not sold by the end of this month, all works will be started from November and the car will be re-listed with a price to reflect the works carried out to bring the Minx back to a nice standard.
