The combination of sleek race-inspired design, sophisticated monocoque construction and 150 MPH top speed made the Jaguar E-Type a timeless sports classic from its inception in 1961. A decade later the Series III E-type marked a major departure in the makeup of the iconic British roadster. The long running dual overhead camshaft inline 6-cylinder engine was supplanted by a newly developed 5. 3-liter V-12 engine, a version of which has powered this 1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster through its indicated 24, 400 miles. The V-12 engine was engineered by merging two 6-cylinder engines into a powerhouse fueled by four Zenith carburetors that was factory-rated 256 horsepower and over 300 lb-ft of torque at just 3, 600 RPM. The V-12 engine is backed by a Borg Warner 3-speed automatic transmission. While the Series III may have added some girth over its svelte predecessors Jaguar had matured into a grand touring machine by 1973 and even weighing in at 3, 400 pounds is comparatively light by contemporary standards. With V-12 power under the long hood the Series III E-type still boasted a 150 MPH top speed. The Jaguar wears its original color combination with the Old English white exterior showing well with the red interior which features reconditioned perforated leather seats and fresh carpeting throughout. The three spoke sport steering wheel sits behind classic full face round Smiths gauges accompanied by an array of toggle switches for positive control in the midst of personal English hand-crafted personal luxury expected of a Series-III Jaguar. The original AM/ FM radio is retained as-is factory air conditioning. The genuine knock-off chrome wire wheels are equipped with Bridgestone Whitewall tires for traditional style with modern handling and ride quality.
