Descrição

Brainchild of Bertone designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Fiat 850 Spider was launched at the Geneva motorshow in March 1965. Positioned as the sporty derivative in the 850 range, it was hugely popular and christened “Little Ferrari”. The Bertone design featured smooth, essential lines and simple yet elegant details, such as the recessed headlamps equipped with tilted plexiglass covers to follow the lines of the wings, and the dihedral side panels inspired by Bertone’s 1963 Corvair Testudo. It also featured a folding roof section made of fabric that could be stowed away completely under a rear flap.

The original 843 cc engine was tuned to produce 49 hp (37 kW) which allowed it to reach a top speed of 145 km/ h (90 mph). This engine ran counterclockwise, a unique feature compared to other engines. In 1968, Fiat revised the successful Spider and again and gave them an even stronger engine with 903 cc and 52 hp (39 kW). They were called Sport Spider.

This 1973 example had spent all its life in sunny California until 2015 when it was imported. We have carried out the following recommissioning work:

Full respray in original Monza red paint
Wheels refurbished
Rear bumpers re-chromed
New roof
New seats covers, door cards and carpets
Dashboard re covered
Engine removed, striped and re built
Brakes overhauled
Clutch cable replaced
The car now presents and drives superbly.
