Just arrived, we are extremely pleased to be able to offer this 'classic' and extremely rare Citroen DS19 Convertible 'Chapron.
As it had done back in 1934, with its revolutionary 'Traction Avant', Citroen stunned the world again in 1955 with its launch of the spectacular 'DS'. The newcomers amazing look had been determined by the requirements of aerodynamic efficiency, while beneath the shark-like - low drag bodyshell, there was an all-independent, self elavating, hydro-pneumatic suspension plus power operated brakes, clutch and steering. No European Car could match the DS's ride quality for several years to come. A true design classic!
Delivered new in France, this superb specimen of one of the very rare Citroens produced by 'Henri Chapron' Coachworks was fully restored and overhauled by its owner in 2005. This was done carefully and methodically over a number of years. The Car was completely dismantled and repaired where neccessary - all mechanics were rebuilt by a well known Citroen Garage, who also handled the full repaint and re-trimming.
During the mechanical restoration, the hydraulic system was converted from red oil to green oil, at the same time it was noticed that in its early life the Vehicle was supplied with a factory supplied replacement engine (Serial E-006640), this is still in the Vehicle and was completely rebuilt also.
This Vehicle really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
