Description
We have owned this unique, low mileage, fully documented & very original 61 year old Sunbeam Supreme Mark III for the last 27 years. This car is one of the very last of the marque to be built & is, undoubtedly, one of the latest chassis numbers still registered, surviving & still in use. Past prize-winner at a number of shows & well-known STAR member.
Affectionally known by us as TRM (trim) from its registration – it had been previously owned by the husband & wife whom originally bought the car new back in 1957. They were well-known dairy farmers, just outside Keswick, in the Lake District & major suppliers of milk in the area.
The car then had 2 further owners in the west Yorkshire area prior to our purchase early in 1991. It had then done just under 15, 000 miles from new. We have since done 22, 000 virtually trouble free & enjoyable miles with the milometer showing a total of just over 36, 000 miles in its lifetime. We have covered much of England, Wales & Ireland during our ownership.
Sadly, we are having to part with this lovely original car which has become very much part of our family, since my experiencing a back problem & which has rendered me unable to drive this treasured vehicle.
The car is virtually in every way a highly desirable, original specification one in cactus green over pine green. The cactus green top being in the original paint displaying a wonderful patina. It is complemented by a working sunroof.
Still on cross-ply tyres (with whitewall trims), the carpets have been replaced to original specification & numerous detailed internal upholstery work carried out. Additionally, the boot has been fully carpeted & the steering wheel fully restored to original specification. Also, the front seat cushions have been rebuilt, re-upholstered & re-leathered & all the interior colour matched to original colours.
The engine, gearbox & driveline are all original. The engine performs well, is reliable & the gearbox has been rebuilt by Bamforth’s with the column change retained - which works well - & a new clutch fitted.
The only modifications that have been made to the car to enhance driving it in modern conditions are: Aldon electronic ignition; Pacet electric cooling fan; copper alloy brake pipes, quartz halogen headlight & sidelight bulbs & a stainless steel exhaust system.
The car is fully driveable for this autumn season although would benefit from some minor cosmetic enhancement, as would be expected for a car from the 1950’s...…. Perhaps the ideal winter job for the man shed!!
