This is one of the most unique Jaguar MKII’s we have ever come across. This car has had a reported £60, 000 spent on a major restoration and modifications enabling the car to be the ideal every day use MKII Jaguar. The beginning of the process was to find a suitable rust free car and the long term owner sourced a right hand drive New Zealand car that is in fact a very early 1959 manufactured car. The Jaguar, a 3. 8 automatic was number 1500 off the production line and therefore a first year production car and this is confirmed with a Heritage trust letter.
In 2002, now in the UK the rebuild began with a full strip down to bare metal . The body was found to be in excellent order and was prepared as necessary for a top class re-paint. The restoration was carried out by Grace Jaguar and James Watt Automotive in Staffordshire. James Watt spent almost 400 hours on the car prior it going to Hampton Coachtrimming for a full re-trim. Seats were re-trimmed in top quality leather and the headlining and sunvisors trimmed in suede. A significant modification and part of the restoration was removing the running gear and replacing it with a 2. 8 Nissan diesel engine and automatic gearbox enabling exceptional fuel economy and modern performance.
Many years were spent restoring this fascinating car and since completion it has only covered 750 miles. The car today presents superbly with its absolutely stunning straight bodyshell free from corrosion issues with beautiful top class metallic paintwork and gleaming chrome finishing the car off perfectly. Wire wheels are also excellent, the upholstery as expected with the low mileage since completion is beautiful and boasts impressive, expensively finished woodwork. On the road the Jaguar offers a totally different driving experience. The 2. 8 modern engine is in excellent order, is responsive and offers impressive performance. The automatic gearbox changes smoothly and the handling and braking are top quality with upgraded brakes and power assisted steering. The cost of build is considerably more than the price offered thus offering an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a heavily modified MKII Jaguar that is capable of daily use.
