Early in the E-Type’s life Jaguar recognised that its true calling lay as a relaxing, high performance GT. In that respect it fitted neatly into the firm’s lineage.
The first move in that direction was the Series 1 2+2, which cleverly retained the original’s evocative lines but added 4in to the wheelbase to allow a small rear seat. This had the added advantage of increasing the size of the doors, making entry and exit considerably easier for owners then and now. The option of an automatic gearbox edged the car further towards the GT oeuvre.
These improvements were popular, particularly with USA buyers, and 2,643 Series 14.2 2+2 LHD models left the factory.
This is one of them, a much-travelled, matching numbers 1966 car now residing in Spain with its long term enthusiast owner. It is an older restoration that has been carefully maintained to factory specification, including the lovely Opalescent Golden Sand paintwork and tan interior. In great, usable condition backed by an extensive history file, this is a lovely example of the relaxing, practical early E-Type.

This very pretty Spanish registered Series 1 car is a testament to its long term owner who has clearly maintained the attractive Opalescent Golden Sand bodywork to a high standard. This appears to be an older restoration, the quality of which work is evident across the paintwork and panel fit. We are told that the brightwork has been rechromed and the chrome wire wheels are new, as are the whitewall tyres.
Inside the condition is very presentable and lightly patinated but not unsightly to any degree. It is highly factory correct including the later, more comfortable E-Type Series 1 seats, wood-rimmed wheel and even the Motorola radio.
