  • Matching-numbers confirmed by seller for body and engine numbers

  • Brake system overhauled including new discs, pads, callipers and seals
  • New tyres, exterior lights and MOMO steering wheel

The Appeal

If you want a 911 from the classic air-cooled era, but you also want to use it, then it’s hard to beat the G-Series SC. These cars were fitted with the stronger all-aluminium 180bhp 3.0-litre flat-six, a five-speed box and a durable galvanised body.
The vendor acquired this car in 2022 and states it is a matching-numbers example. Since buying it, he has continued to invest in improvements, including removing the engine and gearbox to strip and inspect them. The brake system has also been overhauled with new callipers, discs and pads. Elsewhere, the lights, bumpers and Fuchs alloys have been refreshed, and a new MOMO three-spoke steering wheel has been added to the interior.
The car is said to be factory standard and to run ‘like new.’ Here is a chance to capitalise on all that work with a car you can jump in and enjoy.
The vendor says:
“This 1978 Porsche SC is in immaculate condition; one of a kind. The new owner will be driving a car that is basically new for its age. 48 year-old car.”

Certain colours flatter the 911’s iconic shape and this car’s orange/yellow finish is definitely one of them. It is a very well-presented car that benefits from the seller’s attention to detail, including the addition of an array of exterior trim and sealing in recent years. Fuchs alloys, a MOMO steering wheel and a new gear knob complete the picture.

The Mechanics

  • 3.0-litre air-cooled flat-six engine
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Engine and gearbox removed, stripped and fully checked since 2022
  • The vendor reports no oil leaks
  • New disc brakes, brake pads, brake callipers, brake fluid and seals fitted
  • The vendor reports the engine starts and runs correctly with no faults
The G-Series SC got a raft of improvements that make these air cooled 911s amongst the most usable. The all-aluminium 3.0-litre engine was borrowed from the 930 and is rated for its strength, while the five-speed gearbox was standard too.
We are told that since the buyer acquired the car in 2022, the engine and gearbox have been stripped and checked. It is said to remain a matching-numbers car. Other work includes an overhauk of the braking system that included new discs, callipers, and pads. The fluids and seal were also replaced. The vendor reports that the car ‘runs like new.’
