Rare second-generation model in Italy, particularly with the 1.8-litre fuel-injected engine
Originally destined for the North American market, fitted with distinctive energy-absorbing bumpers
Registered with the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI)
Italian technical inspection valid until April 2027
The Appeal
The second-generation Volkswagen Scirocco, unveiled at the 1981 Geneva Motor Show, was a thorough reimagining of VW's sporting coupé. Redesigned by Herbert Schäfer in collaboration with Karmann, it offered improved practicality and a more distinctive interior while retaining the engaging driving character that made the original so popular. The GTI 1.8 variant, with its fuel-injected engine producing 77hp, is a particularly desirable specification and is seldom encountered in Italy.
This 1984 example has an unusual provenance, having originally been destined for the North American market - hence the energy-absorbing bumpers that lend it a distinctive appearance. Mechanically, the car received a service and general check of the engine and transmission in February 2025 at a specialist workshop, and the vendor states it drives with the lively character one would expect of a Scirocco. With a valid Italian inspection certificate valid through April 2027, this is a well-presented example located in Potenza, Basilicata, southern Italy.IMG_20260603_104324.jpg419.59 KB
