The E Type was always going to be a hard act to follow, but by the time the Series 3 finished it had evolved into a grand tourer, and the new XJ-S followed this mould, styled by the legendary designer Malcom Sayer and powered over the years by either straight 6 or V12 engines.

After a various updates the car was facelifted in 1991 after Ford brought the company into the Premier Automotive Group, and as well as updates styling the V12 was enlarged to 6 litres with a new gearbox.

The car was bought by the current owner in 2009 and has kept it in an air conditioned garage for as long as he has had it. 

The previous keeper also kept it indoors and the log books show it has covered just a few thousand miles each year, ideal for keeping it running well without putting much wear on the car.

Supplied new by TWR Jaguar in Oxford and the original number plates and dealer window sticker are included. 

There  is an interesting double-up in the Jaguars history, as it appears the service book was lost when fairly new, and a replacement issued by the dealer, before the original was found.

In more recent years it has been maintained by Clarke’s Jaguar in East Sussex who have taken care of a service and maintenance. 

The cabin has fared very well, with the cream leather looking barely used with just the lightest of patina on the drivers seat, and the light carpets only showing a couple of marks in the drivers footwell.

There are elements of its 1970s roots visible in the gear selector and dash layout but brought up to date for the early 90s with the addition of then modern looking switchgear and airbags. The wood inserts though are timeless and are as new. 

The dash top is perfect and door cards and in fact every other aspect of the interior looks fantastic.

In the boot is the original CD changer and complete toolkit. The boot carpets are very clean and the alloy spare wheel is in excellent condition.

Having been kept in an air conditioned garage as long as the current owner has owned it, and previously in well ventilated indoor storage its no surprise the Jag is in outstanding cosmetic condition. 

The paint is untroubled by stone chips or scratches and is remarkably swirl free with a deep shine and depth to the metallic blue. The two tone factory pinstripes are also crisp and sharp.

The power hood works as it should and is in beautiful shape inside and out with no creases or tears to the outer fabric or headlining. The rear window is glass and heated and the tonneau cover is good.

The alloy wheels are excellent, theres no curb damages and thanks to brake dust shields which have been fitted for many years the surface isn’t pitted or stained by brake dust, and it wears a full set of premium quality Pirelli Cinturato tyres with good tread all around.

A previous owner fitted a Jaguar Leaper in place of the badge, however the badge does come with the car.

Arguably the most impressive and desirable engine option, the 6 litre V12 is an epic piece of engineering.

Looking under the car its clear its had light use and been dry stored and well cared for, the chassis is clean and appears in excellent corrosion free shape.

The XJS is becoming increasingly desirable as they age gracefully, perhaps becoming even more desirable than a series E Type. 

Being a late car, from the post final facelift years it benefits from the years of production improvements and of course the V12 in 6 litre form is not just rare but something we will likely never see produced again, making it even more desirable and collectable.
