The Appeal

Few vehicles can claim to have had half so big an impact as the Range Rover. Originally developed to provide a more premium version of the much-loved Series Land Rover, it remains to this day a luxury brand that represents style and status across the globe. Here we have a 1988 Range Rover Classic that’s presented in good original condition.

These older examples are highly prized by collectors today and are a popular basis for restoration and modification. There aren’t a great deal of original examples remaining, so this represents an excellent opportunity to acquire one of the survivors.

The History and Paperwork

The vendor informs us that this was originally a UK supplied Range Rover - despite being left-hand drive and equipped with a KM/H speedometer
The VIN would also suggest that it was supplied to the UK
Resides in Italy, where it is road registered
Italian registration documentation and plates present

The Interior

Largely original and in reasonably good condition
Comfortable and classic aesthetic
While the grey cloth upholstery shows its age to a degree, it is not excessively worn
The carpeting has some wear, yet remains eminently serviceable
Smart dashboard without too many imperfections
Modern retro-style radio which looks really at home
The controls are only moderately worn
There are a few scuffs to the sill plates and door cards as you’d expect to see
Some chips and general deterioration to the woodwork
The headlining is sagging in a few places
Looks to be complete and a great basis for some cosmetic improvement - or else to continue using as is

The Exterior

Presentable white paintwork
There are of course some blemishes, but no major paint loss
We haven’t seen any structural corrosion to the body
Fairly straight bodywork for a vehicle of this nature
OEM three-spoke alloy wheels in fair condition
There is some wear to the bumpers, although we rather like the patina they have accrued
Some of the black trim has deteriorated somewhat
Equipped with light guards front and rear
All the glass looks in good order
While we have not inspected the underside, the vendor does not report any issues beyond usual wear and tear

The Mechanics

Running well and said to drive exactly as it should

Summary

A classic Range Rover is a great fit in any collection. With enviable off-road ability and that vintage cool factor, there’s something incredibly endearing about these old 4x4s and we like how original this example looks. It will likely provide many more years of service as a capable work horse, or would otherwise be a great basis for a rolling restoration.
