The Aeromax was originally a one-off vehicle, specially designed for one of Morgan's iconic clients, Prince Eric Sturdza of Banque Baring Sturdza in Geneva. Presented at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, it attracted immediate attention. Morgan got back in touch with the Prince, who gave it the green light.
A limited series of 100 were produced between 2008 and 2009, to mark the brand's centenary (a few more were also made to replace those damaged by over-enthusiastic drivers). The spectacular Art Deco-inspired design is the work of Coventry University talent Matt Humphries.
The Aeromax epitomises Morgan's marriage of past and present - a remarkable achievement, not least because of its BMW V8 engine housed under a sculpted bonnet and its luxurious leather interior. It is a work of passion and engineering, and one of Morgan's most coveted models to date.
This example, dressed in grey with a Havana leather interior, has covered just 18,412 miles (29,630 km) and has clearly been pampered. The first Morgan model to feature an aluminium chassis and frame, the Aero 8 was already a revolution in its own right. Powerful and stylish, but criticised for its rather heavy lines, it inspired Chris Humphries to come up with a new design: the Aeromax, with its spectacular Art Deco curves.
It's a striking car. Even at a standstill, it looks ready to pounce. Its generous wings and fastback lines evoke both modern performance and the heyday of classic European car design. Numerous improvements have been made to the Aero 8, including flush doors, rear lights derived from the Lancia Thesis and the much-loved Rays wheels.
