Fiat ended up owning all the major Italian car manufacturers, including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati. It's an impressive list, and Fiat's rise can largely be attributed to the 500, a humble little city car that revolutionised the concept of affordable transport. Just as Piaggio's Vespa popularised the two-wheeler in Italy, the Fiat 500 did the same with the four-wheeler in the country.
A less common and particularly attractive variant of the original 500 was the Transformabile. In fact, every 500 had an opening roof, but this one had a canvas roof that folded away completely while leaving the roof structure in place, just like the Citroën 2CV.
This 1962 example stands out for its condition. The vendor acquired it from its third registered owner, who restored it in 2005 to the vendor's specifications. Subsequently, the rear bodywork was restored in 2020 after a minor accident, and the paintwork was refreshed to maintain its appearance. The car has always been kept in a garage, protected from the elements, and is meticulously maintained, accompanied by all recent technical inspection reports and invoices for parts and professional work.
