The Appeal

Updated in 1968, the Series II was the natural evolution to the extremely well-established E-Type vehicles originally introduced in 1961. While most changes seen in the Series II were introduced in part to conform to increasingly more stringent North American safety mandates, the E-type’s original character and legendary status remained firmly intact. 
According to the current owner and documentation, this particular SII started its life in New York in 1969, was imported to the UK in 1990, and has since undergone a complete restoration. During the restoration, it was converted to RHD, and comes along with all receipts for parts purchased. While it is a little rough around the edges in some places, this E-Type is visually in great condition, mechanically ready to run, and is in complete working order. 

The History and Paperwork

  • Supplied with heritage certificate from Jaguar
  • MOT exempt vehicle, last MOT in 2017 at 50,719 miles with no advisories
  • Large binder full of historical documents and receipts for restoration process
Originally starting life in New York, this Jag was imported back to the UK in 1990, where it began to be restored gradually by a previous owner over the next few years. On or around 2004 it was converted to right hand drive, and in 2015, a professional restoration took place. Under this restoration, the body was treated to a bare metal respray in its reported original Old English White colour.

 Its 4.2 litre engine was then gone through, as well as the suspension and wiring. New bushes and rubbers were fitted all around, and a new wiring loom was installed. The vehicle was fitted with a full stainless exhaust system, new wheels, and the interior was replaced at that time as well, with all receipts present. Along with the car comes a Heritage certificate stating the vehicle is numbers matching. 

The Interior

  • Completely restored interior in 2015-2016
  • Originally LHD, converted to RHD
  • Black leather interior perfectly suits the exterior colour
As a fully restored car, the current interior’s condition is above average, but still slightly rough around the edges as pictured. The vast majority of the interior has been purchased new, reworked, or refurbished. That being said, the interior is not concours condition, and could benefit from some final touches to get it across the finish line, but could just as easily be driven as-is if the new owner so desires. 
The black leather seats are in excellent condition, with no seen tears or rips, and only minor signs of wear. There are some folds as seen, but nothing outside of what would be expected for a used classic. The carpets are all present and in good condition, with the driver’s carpet showing a bit of wear where the heel rests. 
The dashboard is presented in good condition and would benefit from a deep clean and treatment. The owner states all of the buttons, knobs, and gauges are working as they should. While some of the trim shows some roughness around the edges, the gauges and labels are in good condition and readable.
The current steering wheel in excellent usable condition with some very small scratches present in the metalwork. The wooden portion of the wheel is in pristine condition and the clearcoat looks to be intact. The centre hub badge is intact and in good condition, but could use a polish and deep clean. The original steering wheel also comes with the sale as pictured. 
The boot of the vehicle is in a similar condition, with some marks present and some small holes on the leather panel above the spare tire as pictured. While there is some slight discolouration around the fuel tank, ultimately there’s less corrosion than expected as the current owner has fitted a reconditioned tank. The boot lid as well as boot interior metalwork looks to be in true and straight condition. The full-size spare wheel and tire are present and in similar condition to the other wheels. The tool kit is present but not complete, and it comes with a wooden lug wrench/lever for the wheels’ centre knockoffs.
 

The Exterior 

  • Colour in original Old English White, bare metal repainted in 2015-2016
  • Paint in good condition, but with one area of slight damage and some corrosion seen
  • Underside in incredible shape after restoration
The exterior is in overall terrific condition, with only minor blemishes and issues. The paintwork is clean and shows no signs of sun damage, but there are a few areas of corrosion poking through, particularly around the bottom edges of the doors and on the sills. There is also a slight crease and scrape on the passenger side door, where the current owner has had a slight accident, as pictured. These blemishes are not significant, and can only really be noticed when up very close to the car. The trims, rubbers, and seals are all present and in great shape, with no reported leaks. 
Brightwork is overall excellent, as most bits were triple chromed in the restoration. Front and rear bumpers are in terrific condition with only very minor blemishes. 
The glass of the vehicle is in a great state, with no seen cracks or chips, and only minor marks from normal use. The headlight lenses are bright and clear, without any signs of fading or hazing, but the chromed surrounds show some small defects as pictured. Taillights are in overall good condition, with no fading or cracking seen.  
All five of the spoked wheels are present including the spare, with a sixth wheel coming with the sale that does not include a tire. There is some slight corrosion present around the barrels and within the spokes, see photos. These would hugely benefit from refurbishment as well. Some pitting and marks are visible on the wheel centre knockoffs.
The underside of the vehicle is in excellent shape, with little corrosion seen, and new parts abundant from the restoration. 

 

The Mechanics 

  • 4.2l Straight Six with US-Spec Stromberg carburettors still present
  • Converted to electronic ignition, with old distributor available with sale
  • Automatic 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly
  • Suspension in new refurbished condition from restoration, owner states it rides great
during the restoration process, most of the mechanics have been overhauled, but the current owner states the differential does make some noise, and the engine could use a tune up but is mechanically sound. The owner also states 4-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and makes no unexpected noises or vibrations
That being said, the visual condition of the engine and bay is great for the age. There are some signs of corrosion and a few small leaks spotted on the engine, but this is to be expected for a vehicle that actually gets driven. The bodywork and suspension components surrounding the engine bay are all in excellent condition with very little sign of corrosion and a mostly tidy overall appearance.
