The Appeal
The Storm was the ultimate and rarest evolution of Volkswagen’s original Golf-based coupe. Adding a Recaro leather cabin, Zender spoiler and alloy wheels made an already delectable Giugiaro-penned coupe even more alluring. These are cars for proper enthusiasts - perhaps no surprise, then, that revered CAR scribbler LJK Setright owned one.
Just 500 were sold in two colours with 250 of each. This one is in Silvergrun metallic and is amongst only a handful of modern-day survivors. It is a complete, running project car. As such it is a rare opportunity for the right buyer to create a potentially show-stopping car.
The car was originally registered in the UK in 1979 but is now on historic plates in Ireland. It is owned by a Scirocco enthusiast who describes it as in need of rolling restoration - we’ve highlighted the areas below and in the photos.
This Storm is a chance to buy what is essentially a Mk1 Golf GTI with dressier and prettier aesthetics. It is considerably rarer too. We hope it gets the chance to return to its full glory.
