The Appeal

It took the looks and idea of Porsche’s 924, but Mazda’s RX7 then headed in a whole new directions. Beneath the low, chiselled bonnet lay the firm’s clever ‘Wankel’ rotary 1,147cc engine that delivered power quite unlike any conventional petrol engine. 
The Series 2 from 1980 got updated aesthetics and this example is an early one of those. Classically finished in bronze metallic, a popular RX7 colour, it is highly original right down to the brown and red fabric interior and three-spoke ‘rotary’ alloys. The only variations from factory are said to be a Racing Beat exhaust and air filter. The original exhaust is supplied with the car. It has covered less than 98,000 kms from new. 
The vendor acquired the car in 2018 from a Dutch collector. He tells us that he used it regularly for events and rallies up to 2020, when it was put into storage. 
The car presents well with some points to areas to note to a couple of areas in the photos. We are told that the car will need a service and two plug leads plus a general check over. The RX7 is one of the most interesting classic coupes of recent decades and this car offers plenty of potential.

  • Originally registered in Switzerland we are told

The Condition

  • Well preserved car in Bronze metallic with scope to improve as shown 
  • Paintwork in good order but would benefit from a clean and polish 
  • Bodywork in good order with a couple of areas to note in photos 
  • These include light bubbling to arches and bonnet 
  • Fitted with three-spoke factory ‘rotary’ alloys in fair condition 
  • Older tyres fitted as shown
  • Underside can be checked in the photos 
  • Brown fabric interior with red trim in very good order
  • Interior appears to be original with some age to note 
  • Interior would benefit from a valet to further improve it 
  • Dashboard shows some discolouration likely due to storage
  • Headlining is complete but would benefit from some attention 
  • Fitted with sunroof and original factory radio 
  • Four spoke steering wheel 
  • Clear dials and switchgear as shown
