1982 Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia X MkII

Highlights

  • Just two former registered keepers
  • Highly specified with air conditioning and heated seats over factory Ghia X specifications
  • 66,324 miles indicated and believed accurate
  • Running, driving restoration project

The Appeal

The Granada was Ford’s answer to the market-leading German executive saloons from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. Offering a very high factory specification that rivalled (and in some cases surpassed) its Teutonic counterparts, the Granada was a mightily impressive car for the money, and strong sales figures proved Ford was on to a winning formula. By 1979, it was the UK’s seventh best-selling car.
This 1982 post-facelift MkII is the coveted 2.8 Ghia X - sporting a boot badge that would win you a lot of kudos in the office car park back in the day. As Ford wrote in their brochure:
The Granada Ghia’s specification sets very high standards, but they are exceeded by the lavish Ghia X. Designed to delight the fastidious, it blends the latest in automotive technology with features traditionally reserved for the very discerning driver.
The Ghia X came as standard with an automatic gearbox, alloy wheels and Ford’s ‘handling pack’. This one has additional boxes ticked for air conditioning and heated seats.
As the photographs show, this Granada is now in need of restoration having been off the road for a number of years; the MOT records suggest it was last being used in 2011. It’s offered as a running, driving project and comes with an impressive provenance as a two former keeper car with just 66,324 miles indicated.
If you’re looking for a winter restoration project, this would be a great candidate.

The History and Paperwork

  • Two former registered keepers
  • 66,324 miles indicated and believed accurate by the vendor
  • RHD UK-market Welsh car that lived locally to the vendor
  • Offered without MOT - although now qualified for MOT and road tax exemption
  • Last MOT expired August 2011

The Condition

  • Commendably original inside and out
  • In need of full bodywork restoration
  • The vendor provides detailed photographs of the body and underside, providing a good overview of the extent of the corrosion
  • The floor pans appear fundamentally sound while there is some corrosion to the chassis legs, sills and other areas of the underside
  • The vendor notes that the nearside rear quarter panel appears to be the most notable corroded area of the car; they believe it to be relatively solid overall
  • The car looks straight down both sides, with no notable panel damage
  • The original interior does not appear heavily worn and is in very good overall condition for its age, requiring minimal restoration

The Mechanics

  • 2.8-litre carburetted V6
  • Three-speed automatic gearbox
  • Offered in running, driving order; the vendor has completed around ten miles in the car
  • All appears original and complete under the bonnet

We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own  full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
