Best convertible of all time?

That's quite a claim, but one that the Mercedes-Benz R107 SL very possibly lives up to. Few manufacturers have even got close to delivering an open car that manages to be this well-engineered and this well-styled. The SL truly is inimitable.

Here we have a smart 1982 example. It's a UK RHD six-cylinder 280 SL in striking Signal Red. The Merc remained in previous ownership for some two decades and has covered just 1,000 miles in the past five years. It comes with its folding soft top and matching hard top roofs, along with a vast collection of paperwork dating back to 1982 when the car was originally supplied to a gentleman in Edinburgh.
