The Appeal
The Cobra 427 is like a pumped-up muscle fighter. It evolves the slinky lines of the AC 289 into something altogether more curvaceous and muscular. No surprise that it is the basis of most replicas.
When you buy a car as purposeful as this you want performance to match. This car, which apes the classic dark blue and white striped aesthetics of the period Shelby cars, does exactly that. Beneath the bonnet is Chevy’s muscular 5.7L V8, mated - thankfully - to a 5spd manual box. Four-into-one side exit exhausts ensure the soundtrack is suitable sonoroous.
The car was built in 1998 using the well regarded Southern Roadcraft kit. It is one of only 600 high performance SVR8 kits and has covered less than 6,500 miles since it was constructed. That sparing use by its trio of keepers means it is in very good order with few indications of age such as stone chips or gravel rash to the exposed rear arches.
It is a well detailed car with Mountney wheel, Willans harnesses and classic-style bucket seats. After very sparing use in recent years it comes to market with a full refresh. That includes a full service, general check over, new brake calipers and pads, replacement handbrake cable, upper and lower wishbones and gearbox bearings renewed.
A lengthy MOT to March 2026 with no advisories underlines the sense of a well kept car that is ready to use and enjoy.
The vendor says:
"If she was a movie character think Lara Croft!. The four into one side pipes with chromed heat shields. The car is so accurate you’ll need to be a nerd to spot the difference either cosmetically, mechanically or by driving it.
"It comes with a fully documented folder detailing the service history, build details and all MOTs from day one. The car runs like a dream, responsive, fun to drive and certainly an eye catcher. The power, the engine roar, is unmatchable."
