The Appeal

It only took Volvo’s wacky decision to take an estate car racing to turn the firm’s dog wagons into proper manwagons. The V70 R evolved the idea. Equipped with the warbly 2.5L 5cyl 300bhp engine and Haldex AWD, it had the soundtrack and the surefootedness to match its pace.

This Sonic Blue Pearl car is a desirable 2005 facelift car with the body colour exterior fittings, bigger Brembo brakes and improved 6spd auto box. It is quite the find because it is a very low mileage car that spent the first 21 years of its life on Japan’s salt free roads. The condition is impressive and appears to be largely factory standard, right down to the R-spec 18in alloys.

The Japanese stickers and service history indicate regular attention, including a cambelt change in 2021 at 50,000 miles. Since arriving in the UK it has been given a clean MOT pass, valid to February 2027, and freshly serviced. It has also been converted at considerable expense to MPH speedo and English languaage usage.

The joy of the V70 R is that it’s as sensible as it is seriously quick. This is a very usable, well-kept car that looks tempting.
