The significance of the Bentley Continental R cannot be overstated. Not only was it the fastest, most powerful and most expensive Bentley of its day – and, indeed, the most expensive production car ever built at the time – but its development marked a sea-change for the brand from being one that seemingly re-badged Rolls Royces, to one that would celebrate its sporting nature and reinforce their place as producers of the world’s finest cars.
