The Appeal
When the Oxford hit the market in 1948, it proved that Morris were dedicated when they had a good thing going. Standing alongside the Minor and the Six, all of the cars offered a homogenous, immediately recognisable styling that simply stretched according to the target market. While the Minor was aimed at the thrifty motorist and the Six at the executive class, the Oxford was a balanced mid-point - and was hoped to be a big international hit.
While that was never to be - the Minor utterly dominated British car sales in its place - the Oxford is undeniably a fine motor; sturdy and familiar and that little bit more evolved from its smaller sibling.
This 1953 example was sold new by AB G. Lundborg in Örebro, Sweden, and has been in its current ownership for approximately eight years. When acquired, it was reportedly in good, rust-free condition but with tired paintwork. The current owner commissioned a well-reputed paint company to carry out a full respray and has since worked through the car mechanically, addressing gaskets, seals, and the fuel pump, among other items. image.png5.95 MB
